TechNerds ~ Frequently Asked Questions

Technerds is a coding competition, the only programming module of Meraki where you can showcase your coding abilities, challenge yourself, improve your skills, have an exciting and engaging experience and win a jaw dropping prize. It's the perfect opportunity to test your abilities and have fun at the same time.

It will consist of three rounds – solve the mystery, code a lie detector test, and the rapid fire scenario round. Participants will be given an hour for round 1 and 2, whereas for round 3 the challenge is in the limited time (30 mins).

Round 1 requires you to solve a mystery. It basically tests your problem solving skills, and in programming, your ability to filter data using conditions or any other method. You will be given some data and will be required to shortlist it using the conditions provided. Why is it called a mystery solving round? Because, the data you’ll be asked to shortlist will be a list of suspects. So after putting in the required conditions, you will have to output the shortlisted suspect.

Round 2, code a lie detector! Continuing with the theme of mystery solving, you will be asked to code a lie detector test using the given guide (which will be sufficiently detailed enough to assist programmers of all levels). At the end, you will be given some test data to test your code and will be given points according to the sophistication of your algorithm and on meeting the task objectives.

Round 3 is the ultimate buzzer round. You will be given thirty minutes to code as many short rapid fire scenarios as you can. The deal breaker is… even a single error can deem the solution handed eliminated and you will not be given any points on that. The solution handed must be absolutely correct in logic and relevant syntax. Only the true genius and precise perfectionist will be able to succeed this level of scrutiny and pressure and present not only flawless solutions but also the most number of them.

The winner declared shall receive one of the four bonus prizes declared: Apple Airpods Pro, Sony Gaming Headsets, a Smart Watch, and a Cash Prize of up to Rs.3000.00. Furthermore, participants shall receive valuable certificates and shields not only beneficial in college and university applications but also as a great way to show-off your programming skills and feel proud.

Yes! All grade 9 and 10 students worried that they might not have the skills to participate in the rounds mustn’t worry. The rounds are designed to be accessible for all skill levels and are simple and easy to understand, allowing everyone to participate and showcase their coding abilities without feeling overwhelmed by complexity or difficulty. The competition is designed to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone, regardless of their prior experience or expertise.

While the competition may challenge participants to think critically and apply their coding knowledge, the problems and tasks are designed to be manageable for 9th graders with an interest in coding.

Practice solving coding problems: This can help you improve your problem-solving skills and get familiar with different types of coding challenges. Websites like LeetCode and HackerRank have a wide variety of coding problems that you can practice on.
Ultimately, the more you practice, the more comfortable and confident you'll feel during the competition.

Practice coding a lie detector test: This can help you get familiar with the specific task of coding a lie detector test. You can find examples of lie detector tests online and practice coding your own version.
Ultimately, the more you practice, the more comfortable and confident you'll feel during the competition.

Practice rapid-fire coding: This can help you improve your ability to quickly understand and solve coding problems. You can practice this by timing yourself while solving coding problems or by participating in coding competitions that have a rapid-fire round. Ultimately, the more you practice, the more comfortable and confident you'll feel during the competition.

TechNerds is designed to be inclusive, and as such, a variety of programming languages are acceptable for use in completing the tasks at hand. Participants are free to utilize any tools or technologies that they are comfortable with, whether it be a high-level language such as Python or a low-level language like C++, as long as it allows them to accomplish the objectives within the given constraints. The competition is not limited to any specific programming paradigm or framework, thus providing an open-ended experience for the participants to showcase their versatility and proficiency in their preferred languages and technologies.

Technerds is the ultimate coding competition where you not only show off your skills but also stand a chance to win some sweet swag like Apple Airpods Pro, Sony Gaming Headsets, a Smart Watch, or a Cash Prize of up to Rs.3000.00, all while having a blast!
So, everyone is gonna have fun in Technerds because it's a win-win situation: you get to show off your coding skills, learn new things, collaborate with others and potentially walk away with some awesome prizes. So why not give it a shot and see where your coding skills can take you?
